In 2007, founder and structural engineer Chris Hayward was designing his own home in Indiana and couldn't find a cable railing system that combined genuine structural integrity with the minimalist aesthetic he wanted. The options available were either overengineered and expensive or dangerously under-specified for long-term performance.
He spent eight months developing a post system, a tensioner design, and a cable geometry that solved all three problems simultaneously — strong, code-compliant, and visually clean. The first FlightLine prototype went into his home. Within six months, architects and contractors in the region were calling to ask where they could buy one.
Viewrail was formally incorporated in 2008. By 2012, the company had outgrown its original facility twice. Today, we operate from a 140,000 sq ft engineering and manufacturing campus, serve customers in 14 countries, and have completed over 24,000 projects ranging from single-family remodels to multi-story commercial installations.
